The Glenlivet

The Glenlivet

The history of The Glenlivet goes back to the Livet valley, and 1822. Hidden away in the valley, George Smith (the founder) learned his craft. Whilst it was illegal to distil in those times, his whisky was well renowned, and on a visit to Scotland in August 1822 King George IV requested a dram (a shot) of the infamous Glenlivet whisky.

Two years later in 1824 there was a change in legislation, and George Smith become the first legal distiller in the parish of Glenlivet. This wasn't popular with others in the area, and so he went armed to ensure his safety. The Glenlivet believe "His courage set the foundation for our whisky today".
