Description
Luxardo Sambuca Passione Nera
Luxardo has a long history, which dates back to it's initial founding in 1821 by Girolamo Luxardo. It started in the city of Zadar, Dalmatia which at that time was a part of the Austrian Empire.
Fun fact: The anise plant originated in China, and has been used since ancient times for its therapeutic properties. Over the centuries, it has become widely used in the countries of the Mediterranean coast for food, desserts and to flavour drinks.
To make their Passione Nera, Luxardo start with their anise flavoured drink - Sambuca. They then infuse this with liquorice and other herbs - it's this infusion which gives it its dark purple / black colour.
The result is an anise and liquorice flavoured drink which is spicy and rich on the palate.

Perfect Serve
Delicious served straight on its own - but this also works well in the mix.
Try an Opal Cafe Cocktail. In a cocktail shaker filled with ice add 15ml of the Passione Nera and 15ml of freshly made espresso. Shake quickly to chill (but not too long that the ice melts excessively), and strain into a shot glass. Gently float a thin layer of thick cream on the top and enjoy!
