Bayou Reserve Rum

In 2013, in the heart of Sugarcane Country, three childhood friends opened the Bayou® Rum Distillery in Lacassine, Louisiana to once again make America’s original spirit. By harnessing the abundant natural resource of sugarcane, they have created a range of premium, top-notch rums. Each batch is distilled by hand in copper pot stills and aged in 200 litre bourbon and sherry casks. The recipe uses 100% single estate molasses, produced by the oldest family owned and operated sugar mill in the United States.

Bayou Reserve Rum is the Bayou rum for bourbon drinkers and is matured for up to 3 years in Bourbon casks, using the traditional Solera aging method. This is achieved by making a pyramid of barrels. The bottom barrels are tapped, and part of the contents are then bottled. That barrel is then refilled with rum from the barrels above, which in turn are filled from the barrels above that and then new rum is added to fill those at the very top. This method ensures a natural blending process that will deliver a more consistent and delicious taste and quality bottle after bottle.  

The aroma is of creamy vanilla with hints of apple and a touch of cinnamon spice. The taste is dry and oak-like, which may remind you of an aged bourbon and leads to delicious and noticeable cinnamon and maple notes and finishes with long-lasting notes of dark fruits and wood.
