The inspiration for this delicious blue tinted gin comes from an heinous woman in Dutch history....

First known in Leiden as a commited neighbour, and nurse for the poor and needy, Maria (Mie) Swanenburg earnt the name of Goeie Mie (Good Mie). 

However.... all was not as it seemed, and Mie soon became rather infamous for her exploits. It was found that she had been taking out insurance on some of those she cared for. Unfortunately, the food she had been serving some of her cares contained arsenic - and over the period of 1879 to 1883 she had poisoned 100 people.

To this day, she still retains the title of "the greatest poison mixer of all time" in the Guiness Book of World Records.

Interesting fact: Arsenic was known across Europe as 'inheritance powder', as its use was hard to trace
