Hendrick's Gin
One of the 'classic' and favourite gins known today, it was only in 1999 that William Grant & Sons (perhaps better known for their whisky) launched the ultra premium gin Hendrick's. They employed Leslie Gracie, a native of Yorkshire to be the master distiller and conceive the recipe. The gin is still produced today at their 'Gin Palace' in Girvan, South-West Scotland.
To create this gin the distillers actually use a blend of two spirits which are created in two different types of still. The first is an old-fashioned pot-still, which gives a rich and intricate spirit. The second, is a a long-necked Carter Head still which produces a more refined and delicate spirit.
Interestingly, they infuse the same eleven botanicals in each still (chamomile, elderflower, juniper, lemon peel, orange peel, caraway, coriander, cubeb berries, angelica root, yarrow root and orris root). However each still extracts different characters from the botanicals.
After these two spirits are married together, they then add infusions of Bulgarian rose, and cucumber - the two flavours Hendrick's is best known for.
On the nose this gin has defined, and big aromas. A little citrus zest, juniper, intruiging hints of cucumber and definitely the rose petals.
The palate is exceptionally fresh, with the cucumbers freshness joining the classic juniper. The mouthfeel is perfectlt creamy as well, and imparts citrus and a delicate hint of vanilla. The finish is long, with the freshness continuing and developing into light floral flavours.

Perfect Serve
This is delicious when enjoyed as a classic gin and tonic. Hendrick's recommend using a 3:1 ratio for this. Take a large glass filled with ice and add 50ml of the gin and gently pour over 150ml of your chosen tonic. Stir gently and garnish with a thin slice or two of cucumber.
For the tonics any quality tonic will do, such as Fever-Tree Premium Indian Tonic. For a slight flavour variation, try Fentimans Elderflower & Rose Tonic which enhances the botanicals in the gin - and creates a slightly sweeter and more floral gin & tonic (and adds a delicate pink colour).
