Nikka Coffey Gin
The history behind Nikka Coffey gin starts in the 1960's, and comes from the expertise of the Japanese Nikka Whisky company. They have decades of experience blending whiskies, and creating white spirits. In 2017 they launched their Nikka Coffey Gin.
Whilst 'Nikka' is the name of the company, Coffey refers to the type of still used to create the base distillate. This is a traditional continuous still, which produces the signature grain whiskies of Nikka. This results in a silky texture and smooth body to the gin.
To create the gin itself they use a unique blend of botanicals. Juniper (this is a gin!) is joined by unique Japanese citrus fruits, such as Yuzu, Kabosu, Shikuwasa and Amanatsu. These are joined by a touch of crisp apple, and Japanese Sansho pepper.
The result is an intensely crisp, refreshingly citrus gin - which has an exotic twist to it. It finishes with a hint of warmth from the Sansho pepper at the end.
Whilst this is definitely a gin, the unique Japanese botanicals make this quite special.

Perfect Serve
Whilst this makes a deliciously citrus Gin & Tonic, try making it a little special with a Umi Nami cocktail.
In a tall glass add 50ml of the gin and 75ml of fresh grapefruit juice. Stir gently, and fill the glass with ice. Fill the glass with Fentimans Oriental Yuzu Tonic Water (around 50ml). Garnish with a thin slice of grapefruit.
