Description

Suze Liqueur

This delicious bitter drink was first brought to market in 1889 under the name Picotin. It was created by Ferdinand Moureaux for the Paris World fair.

A bitter liqueur, this drink is normally enjoyed as an aperitif. It's well known by bartenders, and brings a delicious and uniquely bright and herbaceous edge to cocktails and long drinks.

Made using gentian root, it has the unique quality of earthiness, a bitter edge, and floral notes all at the same time.

The flavour has a hint of angelica, the renowned gentian bitterness as well as a hint of herbal spiciness. Orange oil and a touch of mint freshen the flavour.

Fun fact: A bottle of Suze is depicted in Pablo Picasso's collage Verre et bouteille de Suze, which he painted in 1912

Perfect Serve

Suze is truly a versatile drink, and it can be enjoyed in many ways.

A classic (and refreshing) option is a Suze & Tonic. Take a large glass and fill with ice, and add 150ml of a quality neutral tonic water (we like Three Cents), and then a good splash (25 - 30ml) of Suze. Stir well, and garnish (if desired) with a slice of orange.
