The Glenlivet Triple Cask Matured - Rare Cask Whisky

As with a lot of distilleries, it is the parish of Glenlivet which gives The Glenlivet distillery its name. Located in Moray, Scotland the distillery has been operating since its founding in 1824, with only a short closure during World War II.

It's classified as a Speyside distillery, (a protected region for Scotch Whisky distilling) this area is around the River Spey in Moray and Badenoch and Strathspey which are located in northeastern Scotland.

Today the distillery is one of the largest producing single malt, and indeed The Glenlivet single malt whisky is the biggest selling in the United States and the second biggest selling single malt brand globally.

First launched in May 2019, their Rare Cask edition is bottled and numbered in small batches. The triple cask expression has distinctive characteristics due to a high proportion of ex-sherry casks. This ensures an unrivalled rich taste and depth of flavours.

The colour is a vibrant amber with hints of copper, which hint at the rich flavours within. On the nose there are subtle syrup peach aromas, along with ginger. 

The flavous open with orange marmalade and vanilla, which are joined by a hint of liquorice and the ginger initially found in the nose. It's an exceptionally well balanced whisky, with the fruit, vanilla and liquorice blending perfectly.

The finish is long and has delicate traces of warm spices.
